☆ So, I strive hard, even if it's not so, I strive hard. Striving hard for no reason ☆

Today, I am sending this from Taiwan.

When we reached the airport, 小便小僧 (Cupid sculptures peeing in fountains) Inohara, Miyake combination headed straight for the toilet.
The two of us stood side by side, and happily relieved ourselves.
We greeted the Taiwanese fans who had waited for our arrival to welcome us, then we got into the car and had lunch at a famous Xiao Loong Pau restaurant, and that's us, V6!

We stuffed ourselves with the cute little rolled-up Xiao Loong Pau, all of us happily chomping away, until our stomachs were all full. and since we wanted to celebrate Okada's birthday which was just a few days ago, all the staff from every floor came together, and the cute little Xiao Loong Pau choir sang 『HAPPY BIRTHDAY』 to Okada.

We made our way to the next destination, rehearsal for the next two days' concerts.
After rehearsals ended, the once again hungry us, went for some delicious herbal hotpot for dinner.

We crowded round a circular table and started digging in.
Since he was coincidentally sitting near the stove, Morita-kun was nominated as the person in charge of controlling the fire, but in spite of it being a normal gas stove, it was laughable the way he controlled the fire's strength, looking very much like a workman feeding logs into the ancient kitchen range.

However, Morita-kun is very much someone who stays focused on eating, so he had promptly forgotten his responsibility, and in no time at all, the pot was bubbling over like magma, which was not good.

I was the first one who noticed it, and since I was seated next to him, I reached out my hand to lower the fire, but at that very moment!?
The kinpatsu (blond) workman grabbed my left hand, and said 「I will do it. Amateurs should not touch it, na. 」. So very workman like.

In my heart I was thinking, 「This fella...up to just now, he had totally forgotten about the fire, and was just stuffing himself like mad...」.

The me, who is just a little big-hearted, after I had been stopped from touching the gas control's knob by this man, had my good humour restored at the end of the totally delicious meal, and that silenced the little voice in my heart.

After having our fill of the herbal hotpot, in order to promote good health, to prevent illnesses, and also to lengthen our life span, we went for massages.

The staff-san said, 「Those who'd like to go for massages?」, and 4 of us decided to join in the fun i.e. Kuishinbo (gourmand) with Kamisen.

We thought the massage would help to relieve our fatigue from all the travelling, and when we checked out the menu, that particular massage place offered foot reflexology, shiatsu, oil massage. Since we were there for relaxation purposes, without any hesitation, all 4 of us decided on the oil massage.

We then went into a private room, and it was the ojisan's who brought us towels and such, and after we had changed into just a piece of underpants, we lied down on the beds and waited as they readied the preparations.

At that very moment, Morita murmured out loud.

「Don't tell me, that the Ossan will be the one (performing the massage)

With those words, whoever was in the vicinity would immediately have some repulsive thoughts running through their heads.

Then, the quick-witted Nagano-kun immediately started saying, 「Me, I think I will switch to shiatsu instead. 」

At those words, everyone started speaking to forestall him.

「No, it's a all or nothing gamble, right?」
「You can't possibly change your mind now, right?」
「If you're a man, you would stick around for the challenge, right?」

With our words, Nagano-kun stayed behind, and the 4 of us waited for around 5 minutes.
They turned up...

Sure enough, it was those same ojisan who had passed us the towels.
No, they were ossan.

At that moment, Okada murmured out loud.

「Crushing defeat...」

Not a single one of us got a lady masseur, they were all ossan, and it was the ossan who poured oil all over us for the oil massage.

Anyway, it's about time that all of you understand how we felt.
We had a faint hope, that we would be getting an oil massage from a beautiful o-nesan (lady), who would gently massaged us and we would slowly drift off to sleep.

Those faint hopes of ours came to naught, and like soap bubbles, our little dream quickly dissipated, and vanished into thin air.

「But, we won't know till we've tried it」 we were saying to ourselves, as we lied alongside each other on the bed, and thus the massage began.

In the first 10 minutes, in order to loosen up our muscles, it seemed like they were giving us a shiatsu massage, as we could clearly tell by their strong fingers...

And soon, the much anticipated, 80-minute punishment game of massage by ossan only, started with a shrill loud whistle.

「This is not a punishment game, yo」 howled Morita-kun.

That cry was of no use, and with the 4 ossan and one over-thirty, two just-thirty and the last twenty-something who just turned 29 this month and is counting down (to hitting thirty), we were just 1 short of becoming 8 ossan. A dream Sino-Japan collaboration, and thus, the fascinating 80-minute oil massage began.

The minute it started, we immediately comprehended, that oil massages and ossan were not a good combination.

For a man, no, an ossan, with his rough hands massaging the oil onto our bodies, somehow the feeling is quite icky.

Instead of slowly drifting off to sleep as the massage progressed, it felt like we were getting a foot reflexology massage all over our bodies, it was painful all over.

Next to me, I could hear Morita-kun screaming "I-tetetete!!" (painful), and as the sound reverberated throughout the room, within a few seconds it was my turn.
However, no one said a thing about my "I-tatatata!!" echoing in the private room.

On the other hand, for Nagano-kun and Okada, they seemed to be bearing the pain well, as I couldn't even hear their breathing at all.
I wondered if that meant that the two of them are sound asleep?
If that was the case, then they are sure tough guys.

As those thoughts ran through my mind, I suddenly heard the sounds "korr korr" from next to me, pretty much like Darth Vader's breathing.
At first I thought that it was Morita-kun, trying his best to endure the pain, but soon after, I realised it wasn't Morita-kun after all.
From next to me, a voice said, 「This fella, his "korr korr" is so noisy. Is his nose stuffed up or what, yo.」
The loud breathing was actually coming from the ossan who was massaging Morita.

With the towels over our heads, the lights were all shut out, and in that darkness, I relied on the sounds to make out what was going on.
In that darkness where all I could do was listen to the sounds, to me the 「Korr, Korr」and 「I-tetetete」sounded like Darth Vader and Morita were in a battle (laughs).
Just by listening to the voices, I could tell when Morita was having pressure applied on (laughs).

Since all I could hear were those sounds, my laughter started building up, and soon I was laughing out loud.

Then, before I realise it, we were nearing the end of the terribly painful massage session.

Without me noticing it, I had become accustomed to the pain, and some time during the session, I had drifted off to sleep.

The ossan woke me up, and it was a fantastic way to wake up? and all of us groggily left the massage place behind.

Up to that moment, we had been complaining severely about the ossan, but we noticed something as we got into the car.

We had lost our jetlag, and our bodies were warm and tingly all over. Immediately after that we had returned to our rooms and went to bed. So, contrary to our feelings, our bodies were actually very satisfied with the massage.

Ossan, yo, arigatou. (オッサンよ、ありがとう)
Ossan tachi, yo. Xie Xie. (オッサン達よ、謝謝).

The next day, thanks to the ossan's, we were able to carry out the concerts perfectly.

The first show in Taiwan, a 7-year in waiting concert in Taipei.

There were those who had attended our concerts 7 years ago, and some were supporting us for the first time. The concert was fantastically exciting and it ended uneventfully.

Although we were no Xiao Loong Pau, all of your love wrapped around us, and it was a very happy 2 and a half hours indeed.

Today, it will be the final concert in Taiwan!!
Those of you who regrettably couldn't make it, those of you who crossed the oceans to attend the concert in Taiwan, please pray that today, none of us would have any accidents, and that the concert would be a great success by ending without any major happenings.
再見ッ!

☆ I would like to be someone who lives his life with pride ☆

Be it someone intellectual, or someone who conducts himself dutifully, we all have one thing in common, and that is our physiology i.e. as a living organism, we all pass motion, pass urine.

It is by good sense and endurance, that we do not simply do it anywhere.

To a certain degree, even though it is possible to hold the urge, sometimes it is still best to do it as and when one feels the urge.

In this world, there is always someone who has the same timing with one, with regards to all these physiology needs.

Although it's not a rule of thumb, for me, I noticed that I do have someone like that.

Well, that person is, Inohara-kun, someone who has been featured repeatedly on my blog.

Although I am not sure how it happened to be so, but from way back, we always seem to have the urge at the same time, so many times that it's almost scary.

Recording TV programs at the studio, while on location, during interviews, concerts and parties, at every single venue, you can say that we will bump into each other in the toilet.
For sure, it has somehow been planned that I would meet this person.

One sixth of a chance, that's equivalent to the percentage for success in terms of russian roulette.

The interesting thing is that, neither of us did it on purpose.
It's not like one person stands up to go to the toilet, and the other would be saying, me, I want to go too, and therefore the two of us would be going to the urinal together.
Somehow at some sub-conscious level, the two of us seem to be consciously connected when it comes to going to the toilet at the same time.

By our own volition, one of us would stand up to go to the toilet, and every time, it would end up that Inohara-kun and I would be in the toilet together.

During the meeting for the concert, that not so grand...urinal!? encounter that has never happened to-date, took place.

On that day, the minute we arrived at the meeting, Okada immediately headed for the toilet.

That's not the first time for Okada to do such a thing ...

Then, Okada returned from the toilet uneventfully, and so the meeting started.
On that day, the meeting started some time after 8 p.m., so prior to the meeting, each of us had already settled our own dinner separately, and were all full. At the meeting, all we had were coffee, and some snacks that were strewn across the table, and without any delay, us members and the staff were all exchanging our ideas, opinions flying about, and the meeting progressed.

Sometime in the middle of the meeting, when everyone was starting to run out of steam, Nagano-kun started acting weird...for sure it was something that none of us had ever witnessed in Nagano-kun before...

When I stole a glance at Nagano-kun, his eyes were staring into space.

As I continued to observe Nagano-kun, his eyelids were fluttering as if they were taking deep breaths. They would slowly close and then open.

After a few times, the eyelids decided to stay shut, and didn't open again...
It looked like the grocery store at the end of the day, with the shutters down and closed for the day (laughs).

Although it's another aspect of our physiology, Nagano-kun was seized by a bout of drowsiness.

When Nagano-kun noticed the me, who was in his direct line of vision, looking at him, he started looking about him, to the left and to the right.

When one realises that one is seized by a bout of drowsiness, calling on one's reserve of perseverance, one would try to overcome the drowsiness, by standing up, or by moving about, trying this and that to shake off the drowsiness. However, to a third party, seeing one doing such things, he would only think that one is fidgety (laughs).

Finally, Nagano-kun, in trying to fight off the drowsiness, as a final measure, stood up and headed off to the toilet.

However...

Naa, Nagano-kun, yo. It's not the first time...

Anyway, at the end of the meeting, it was finally my turn.
Coming Century Boys.
The coming 21st century young man... (来るべき21世紀少年)
No, the coming 21st century urine (来るべき21世紀小便) finally arrives.

As I descended the stairs to the toilet, it was such a complete change of scene from the bustling meeting room. Within the toilet, it was deathly quiet, and I was the only person in there.

Within a few seconds...
the toilet is at one floor below the meeting room, and soon I heard kotsu kotsu sounds on the stairs...? No, it was actually dadadadada--and I was thinking to myself that the sounds of the foot steps were really energetic as it descended the steps. The door behind my back opened, and the man standing there is none other than Inohara-kun.

Even though I would never have thought that this would happen on today, somehow or other, between the two of us, it would end up such that whoever gets to the toilet first, would end up waiting for the other to stand by his side.

It really is unbelievable. The things we ate or drank, were all different. On top of that, we both had different timings with regards to when we had our dinner, but for some reason, we still ended up going to the toilet at the same time.

Perhaps our internal water storage tanks are of the same size...

As the mystery deepens, I've yet to identify the root reason...

Since we didn't go for any real experiments, we would never know for sure...

And so, up till now, both of us will be storing up water in our internal tanks, and even though we may be at different places, living our own usual lives, not seeing each other at all, yet we still end up with the same timing when it comes to going to the toilet...

In the past, when we bumped into each other, we would be making some small talk like, 「what a surprise, naa...」 perhaps out of surprise, or perhaps it felt like a necessity. However, these days, we just accept it naturally, and perhaps even take it for granted, that we would be standing side by side, two good buddies, peeing together at the urinal.

Of course, it goes without saying, that this has become a way of life for us.

Today I will probably talk about the MC bits only, as pretty much of everything else is a blur. Why? More about that later.

During the starting MC, someone was mentioning that they could see many fans from Hong Kong. Nagano-kun then mentioned that it wasn't only HK, but he could see fans from 3 other countries too (that I will not mention, and you will know why in a while).

I forgot to mention that they refer to each other by the color of the shirt. Go is yellow, Okada is blue, Ken is pink, Inocchi is orange, Nagano green while Leader is read. Today, Inocchi again introduced himself as Go, in Chinese, to which everyone goes, no, no...that's yellow. Then he goes, that's right, ok, my name is Nagano! in Chinese. No, no...that's green! After he finally says his own name, it is Nagano's turn. But since Inocchi had used his name, Nagano was a little put-out, and was saying it was kinda anti-climatic to say his own name now! So, if I remember correctly, we all said it for him. When it came to Leader, he again used this really funny tone and face to say his name in Chinese, because it was really difficult to say it. I can't say it either... Anyway, the rest of V6 were all reprimanding him for saying it in such a funny way, and then I think either Inocchi or Nagano asked Leader to request the audience to say it for him. Which he promptly did. So, Leader was then going, that's what I said.

During the MC this time, Inocchi started talking about flipping through the newspaper articles about yesterday's show. There was a picture of Okada flying through the air, during the performance of Darling, when he flies off Nagano's shoulder. Okada was saying, that is one terrible picture. My face looked super serious! Nagano was saying yeah, and the picture had him looking sideways, on the verge of turning back to check on Okada's landing. They then asked Okada and Nagano about today's jump, and why did Okada gave him the thumb's up. Was it because it was even better than yesterday's jump? Apparently it wasn't so. Nagano said that the jump felt a little shaky, so Okada was giving him the thumbs up sign to tell him, "Daijoubu, I'm alright".

During all these, they conveniently forgot about the translator, until Sakamoto said, "Riight, now let's have Ko-chan translate all that!" He is such a meanie! But Ko-chan did a very good job. She managed to translate almost everything. The cute thing is, as she translates, Nagano and Okada both re-enacted their expressions/actions when they had originally spoken in Japanese. Hilarious! After Ko-chan finished, she received a big round of applause from us fans, and then Inocchi asked Go, "So, did she get everything?", to which Go replied, "Hmm...I think she got almost all"...

Next Inocchi said that though he couldn't understand Chinese, but he could recognise the Kanji words, and he said the thing that struck him was that, they wrote Leader's name, his age of 38 and that the kanji for ganbatte. And attached to that was a picture that showed Leader kicking really high, while the rest were not kicking at all. So Inocchi asked Leader if that was part of the choreography, and it was just off-timing. Leader then admits, "no...I added it in myself".

Somehow, the conversation turned to how we should be very afraid when Leader is in his quirky mood or when he is high. He will make some strange actions. So they all prompted Leader to make the action, and it's his signature gun finger and wink. Inocchi then says, once he does that, you will see wherever his finger is pointed, there will be a cut path! Everyone will be bending their heads left or right , as the sizzle from his finger cuts a path through the audience. Some may even bend backwards ala Matrix, should they be caught in the line of fire. They tried that out, but I couldn't see the path...

Then Okada came up with the idea. In the Swing! intro, they are all playing air instruments. At the end of the intro, Leader needs to do that action, and the audience have to part like the Red Sea...They practised, all went well. During the actual number, after Leader did his action, he lost his rhythm, and couldn't keep up with the Swing! dance steps. He was just standing there looking left and right, trying to join, but not able to until probably the second line or so. Kawaii!!

They once again mentioned about the scooters/mopeds, and how almost everyone in Taipei has one. They asked who amongst the audience owned one, and quite a number of hands shot up and voices rang out. Ken then mentioned that he would like to ride one in Taipei too, and he started mimicking the actions of riding one, while making the sounds of a roaring engine. Inocchi then said he was amazed by the designs of the masks worn by the riders. They were all cute and nice, and some even had hearts printed on them. He then proceeded to say that should such masks be worn in Japan, people would be wondering what the wearer was up to, since masks are predominantly used when one had a cold!

We had 5 encores? The extra one from yesterday was Can Do Can Go!, and during this running round the dome, Sakamoto took off the black wristband he was wearing and fling it to the crowd on second floor, right in front of where I was standing in the arena! Grrr...

For the final encore, they came out to say their thanks, no singing, just speeches. Ken and Go were teary-eyed.

That's about all I can remember. Tired from all the fangirling and travel.

And now for the reason why everything is a blur...

Major fangirling ahead... )

I L O V E V 6 ! ! !

p.s. a girl from Singapore sat next to my friend and I. Very sweet-looking soft-spoken gentle girl. No uchiwa, and stayed at the Tango Hotel. I don't remember your name, I think it started with a Xin? But if you happen to read this blog, I would love to keep in touch with you! And introduce you to other fans from Singapore that I know, so that you never have to attend a concert alone again!

22 November 2009 @ 12:14 pm

It had been drizzling on and off the entire day, and when we made our way to the Dome at around 7 p.m., it was kinda chilly and wet. However, the drizzle didn't dampened my mood at all. I was feeling the all familiar buzz and accelerating heartbeat. For I was about to meet our beloved V6!

Today, we were seated in the first row, at the red zone, and 13 rows from the front. So, you can imagine, they all looked pretty tiny. Photography was not allowed, but I think they were not so strict when it was just a matter of snapping the venue, and not V6!. So here is a photo of the venue.

The show started with the "Guilty", and our boys were hot! Lots of screaming around. I don't really remember the song list, so I shall only be able to give some of the highlights of the show.

During the first intro MC, everyone introduced themselves in Chinese. When it came to Inocchi's turn, he introduced himself as Go! Which got the crowd all going, ehhh! Then he goes, why? What? I got it wrong? OK...that's Go's name? Then he finally said his own name. For Leader, after saying his own name, he goes, "I love Xiao Loong Pau", "I love Taiwan biscuits", before he finally goes, "I love you", all in Chinese. Then they spoke briefly and Sakamoto mentioned about the banner that says, "Okaerinasai V6", and so they all go, "se-no, tadaima!" and we all replied, "Okaeri!". Inocchi also mentioned about how it had been raining when they arrived, and one of the fan at the airport actually called out to him, "ame otoko!" i.e. he who brings rain.

Then they split into Kamisen/Tonisen performance. Kamisen started singing with "Hello Goodbye" and then "Rock This House". Next up was Tonisen, and they sang "Honey 3x" & "Orekimi". Then it was V6 again, with a medley of all their songs.

Next up, MC time. They brought on a Chinese translator, who was the same person they used 7 years ago. FIrst up, they talked about it being Okada's birthday just a couple of days ago. Seems they had arrived on Friday, and had gone out for some Xiao Loong Pau, and the staff of the restaurant brought out the Peach-shaped mantou, which is traditionally used to celebrate Chinese birthdays as it signifies longevity. And so, Inocchi then says, let's all wish Okada well, by singing him the birthday song. So he goes, Jun-chan? SP? And then Okada was going, SP is not bad too...but no no. Jun-chan. Then we all sang Happy Birthday to Jun-chan. He turned 29, and is the only remaining member of V6 still in his 20's. They then turned to Ken and say, now that you have turned 30, do you have any advice to share with Okada, and he turns 30 in another year? Ken goes, what I would like to share is that, as you turn 30, you begin to fully understand the pains of Sakamoto-kun. And should you hurt yourself, the wounds take longer to heal.

Inocchi then cheekily says, yes, the very fact that V6 made it to our 15th year, is all due to Leader not collapsing... Then the crowd all started chanting, "Leader, leader, leader..." Sakamoto was trying to speak, but our voices drowned him out, so he raised his voice and admonished us! There was anothe round of chanting, but I forgot what Leader had said to make us chant...

They then moved on to talk about the uchiwas and banners. Inocchi mentioned that he saw one that says "binbo" meaning poor. So he was going, i don't really know what that person is trying to get across. Of all the words, why binbo? Nagano then goes, they probably are trying to say that even though they are poor, but they still fork out the money to buy our tickets. Thank you very much! Ken then says, "well, it worked didn't it? That uchiwa is now the topic of our MC. So I guess their tactic worked in getting our attention", to which Inocchi replies, "then for all we know, tomorrow, everyone will be carrying uchiwas that say binbo. I wonder if there are any that says okane mochi i.e. rich?"

Next Inocchi asked Nagano why he was so quiet that day? Nagano replied that, actually he was still thinking about the food he had earlier. While everyone had called for room service, he had actually requested the translator and some other staff, to go out for some Taiwanese fried vermicelli. And it was delicious. Then he had some lemon juice, but on the cup it was printed, "oishii" and "kawaii", so he was a little puzzled, why? Inocchi then goes, maybe the next line is "binbo"... Then he mentioned about how 7 years ago, the fans were chasing their cars, riding on their scooters, banging into each other. Go chirps in saying, at the airport, one of the fan said to him, Go, don't be going out gallivanting tonight! They all laughed and says, wow, how well the fans know you.

Ken later revealed that on Friday, they had gone for a massage. When Inocchio asked, who went, he goes, us Kamisen and Nagano-kun. To which, Nagano-kun quickly says, "us 4 Kamisen". They were standing in a row, Sakamoto, Nagano, Ken, Inocchi, Okada & Go (if I remember correctly), so Inocchi made a gesture with his hand and goes, "no, it is US 4 Kamisen". After the laughter died down, Ken said that the masseurs were all os-san, i.e. old men. They had all gone for oil massage, and he says, in his imagination, oil massages are carried out by lovely, gentle women, who will soothingly rub their backs. Instead the os-san all pushed real hard with their thumbs, and it was painful! To which Inocchi said, "all these mentions about os-san, os-san, Sakamoto is trembling with anticipation as he thinks you are talking about him!

By the way, many times the translator couldn't catch up with them, and so sometimes she just gives up and not translate some of the talk!
That's about all I can remember from the MC. I am sure the other fans can fill in the blanks, as many of us attended the con. I have one more to look forward to tonight, and the seats are corner arena seats! Yay!

I leave you with some other bits and pieces that I can recall:

  • During one of the Kamisen performance, the center stage slowly rises. Both Ken and Okada are on it, but Go is outside the ring, and so he was left behind. When he realises his mistake, he scrambled up the moving stage. It was so funny.
  • The stage is a mix of all the concerts from past year. The middle stage has water raining down and shooting up, the front stage has flames, the clock from orange is there.
  • I forgot what song they were singing, but after Okada sings his solo line, he blows a kiss, and the netire stage behind lights up like twinkling stars. Very nice!
  • The costumes too were mostly from previous shows, a mix and match. For Kamisen and Tonisen performances, they wore costumes from their respective cons this year. They also had that shocking pink suit, minus the frilly, feathery brooch, I think from they 2003 dream concert? I have that poster, but I forgot from which year it was.
  • We had quadruple encores, I think. I lost count. The first one they came out singing Thank You, one of my favourite songs of all time!

I will add more after tonight!

P.S. I am staying in the same hotel as V6, and last night after the concert, a bunch of fans were waiting outside the hotel. I wonder if they met them? I have not had any luck running into them, not that I expected it. But it feels nice to say, V6 and I were sleeping under the same roof! ^^;

Atmosphere 雰囲気

The word atmosphere 雰囲気 is actually written as fun-i-ki 「ふんいき」, yone.

However, the pronunciation has somehow mysteriously changed to that of fu-in-ki 「ふいんき」, ne.

If we strictly pronounced it the way it is written, somehow is just doesn't sound like the word atmosphere anymore
